The DTZ exam: everything you need on one page
The DTZ is the final exam of the integration course in Germany. It tests two levels at once, A2 and B1 — the result decides which level appears on the certificate.
The tasks themselves are in German — deliberately so: the exam is in German too. This page explains the way in your language.
Exam structure
The written part takes 100 minutes (listening and reading 70, writing 30). The oral part takes about 20 minutes and is done together with another candidate.

How the result is calculated
Listening and reading together are 45 tasks: from 20 correct answers you reach A2, from 33 you reach B1. Writing and speaking are assessed by an examiner. For an overall B1, speaking must be B1 — and either listening+reading or writing must be B1 as well.
How to practise here
- 10 complete tests per exam — all written by us
- Audio for every listening task, with two attempts
- An explanation for every task (in German)
- A level estimate right after listening and reading
- Assessment of writing and speaking against the exam criteria
Are these official tasks?
No. All texts, tasks and audio are written by us. We follow the official structure — sections, number of tasks, time, points — but the content is ours.
Do I get a certificate?
No. Only an official exam centre can issue a certificate. Here you practise and see where you stand.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, everything runs in the browser on phone and computer, no app needed.
